What is the Territory API?

The Territory API is a feature in Qomon that automatically fills out a contact’s territory based on their geolocated address and a defined geographic scale.

This field can be used to represent various levels of territory, such as:

  • Electoral ward

  • Polling station

  • Department

  • Riding or constituency

Once enabled, this automation ensures new contacts are tagged with the correct territory from the moment they're imported or added.

⚙️ How to activate automatic territory identification

To get started:

  1. Go to your Space Settings

  2. Click on Contacts / CRM > Contacts

  3. Scroll down to your address fields and find the field labeled Territory

  4. Toggle on “Automatic Territory Identification”

You’ll then be prompted to choose the scale of territory you want to apply (e.g. ward, department, etc.). This is the scale that will be automatically filled out on contact cards moving forward.

📥 How it works in practice

When you import a contact list with standard address information—such as street, house number, city, and postal code—Qomon geolocates each contact on the map.

From there, the Territory API assigns the appropriate territory based on their location and the scale you selected.

Example:

You import a contact who lives at 123 Maple Street in your city. Based on geolocation, they fall within Ward 7. The “Territory” field on their contact card will automatically populate with “Ward 7.”

👥 What about existing contacts?

Enabling the Territory API will only apply to new contacts going forward. To update existing contacts, you’ll need to perform a mass update to refresh their geolocation and assign a territory.
