👊 What does GOTV mean?
The primary goal of ‘Get out the Vote’ actions are to maximize voter participation, ensuring that as many eligible individuals as possible exercise their right to vote. With Qomon, you have the option to create two different GOTV actions - Canvassing and Calls.
A GOTV action enables you to create an action with advanced filters, making the action itself dynamic! You set criteria for those who are in the action, and once they no longer meet the criteria, they will be removed.
When you create a GOTV action with Qomon, you must start with your advanced filters in the contact database - including, but not limited to a tag as a part of the criteria since you will be adding a tag to all contacts visited.
🧩 How to create a GOTV action?
To create a GOTV action, you must first contact support to enable one/both of them to your space.
Once that is done, you can head over to your contact database and select the criteria of which contacts you would like to include in the action.
Creating your GOTV action can only begin from your contact database using advanced filters. The filters that you define are dynamic, which means you choose the criteria for the contacts you want to be in the action.
As soon as they no longer meet the chosen criteria, they will be automatically removed from the action (eliminating the risk of contacting someone who has already voted).
Once you have chosen your filters, or have picked one of your dynamic lists, click Actions in the top right corner, and select ‘Create Action’. You’ll be taken to the Actions tab where you can select either GOTV canvassing or calls.
Quick example: If you filter by > tag ‘is not equal to’ > ‘voted’ > create your GOTV action, any contacts that you modify to have this tag will be automatically removed from your action.
🏘️ GOTV Canvassing
The first step of creating your GOTV canvassing action is assigning tags to the contact when giving them a Voting Status within the action.
You have the option to choose from existing tags, or to create a new one. The tags will not remove contacts from the action but they will be considered “Done”. You’ll be able to auto assign tags to:
Voted
Not voted
Abstain
Once you assign your tags, you create your GOTV canvassing the same as a regular canvassing action. You can read here for more information on finalizing the setup of your canvassing action.
📞 GOTV Calls
The first step of creating your GOTV calling action is assigning tags to the contact when giving them a Voting Status within the action.
Once you have selected GOTV Calls, you will need to do the same as the steps in the canvassing action - assign tags for the contacts Voting Status:
Voted
Not voted
Abstain
After assigning your tags, select ‘Next’ and finish creating the action like a regular phone banking! You can read here for more information on the calling action.
📲 How does it look on the mobile?
On the mobile, your GOTV walk list will look very similar to those for regular actions:
You’ll first need to confirm participation, and then you can start your GOTV canvassing action
You can select a city, street, and then house number, bringing up a contact
Assign their voter status, and then follow the prompts
If a survey is attached you will be brought to the survey, and then to fill out their contact information
Lastly, choose to add follow ups (support levels and tasks), or go back to the list and to the next house!
The GOTV call list will follow just about the same steps as listed above!
Confirm participation, and then hit start action
Your list of phone numbers will appear, choose a contact and give them a call
Once you’ve selected Start the call, you will be brought to your phone’s calling app - if you do not want to use your own phone number, turn off caller ID in your phone’s settings
Assign their voter status, and then follow the prompts
If a survey is attached you will be brought to the survey, and then to fill out their contact information
Lastly, choose to add follow ups (support levels and tasks), or go back to the list and call the next contact!
⚠️ Please Note
All of the four buttons on the mobile action to assign the contacts their Voting Status will mark them as “Done” in the action and their presence as “Accepted”, except for “Not here”. Assigning someone “Not here” will be considered as “Done” in the action and their presence as “Not here”:
In order to “re-canvass” those assigned “Not voted”, the action will need to be remade/they’ll need to be added to another action OR you can just instruct your canvassers to revisit those marked as Not Here in the same action.
